Journey of Birrarung

As part of the Medibank project, Murrup Biik engaged Jenine Goodwin Thompson to create this beautiful painting "Journey of Birrarung" (4mx2.5m). It depicts the journey of Birrarung as it flows from the headwaters at Mt Baw Baw thru the Yarra Valley down to Melbourne where the fresh water meets the salt water at Port Phillip Bay. The Birrarung is a life giving force and has been meeting place for the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people and other Kulin Nations.

Weaving Circle

The circular rug is based on a woven circle made from lomandra by Aunty Kim. We chose a colour palette that honoured the natural organic fibre and its changing colours in the environment. It also compliments the interior space of the yarning circle. We love how we can honour Country and Cultural through our creations.

Manna Gum Carvings

Beautiful carved manna gum pieces were hung on a feature wall by Lewis Wandin-Bursill and they were transformed into 8 very large decals that extend across the walls on 6 levels. Woven artefacts by Aunty Kim, in the form of an eel trap, basket and a huge scoop were also commissioned to be displayed in the building.
